Taking the teardrop shape from the blown glass, I made a pattern in MDF from which I then made a plaster mould.

From this mould I could then produce a series of identical hollow vessels from porcelain.

This is done by pouring slip (runny clay of about the consistency of double cream) into the mould. After a few minutes the water has been absorbed from the slip nearest the plaster leaving a solid layer.

Pouring away the excess slip then leaves a hollow shell which can be dried and removed from the mould.
